TURTLES

Side necks (Family Chelidae)

Acantochelys spixi

Very similar in habitat and habits to some Clemmys species, it is really a small pond inhabitant, and takes long walks from one pond to another, with strong feet which are weakly webbed .
Very hardy and long lived!

Babies are red blotched

Carapace color and pattern
is variable in juveniles

Notice the spines on the neck which confere the species its bizarre appearance

If you have any questions pertaining husbandry or breeding of the above species, I will be happy to help.
